About Peter Taylor

I have been teaching from 1940 to 1982 with the exception of six years war service. I taught in five different schools as teacher, deputy head teacher and head teacher. Since I retired I have dedicated my life to constructing this website to give parents the benefit of my long and wide ranging experience.

I was chosen annually by the secretary of the Cheshire NUT (John Williams) to take the teacher refresher course in every area of Cheshire. My average audience was 50, which itself is remarkable. Similarly I was chosen by the senior advisory officer for mathematics (John Dodridge) in Cheshire, to take annual courses at Malpass, Cheshire.

The continual appointment to this course without a break for several years rested on the will of the audience each year. I was chosen as "king of them all" at a meeting in Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford when Dr. Geoffrey Mathews (later professor of mathematics) was leading a week's course of approximately 100 specialists chosen from areas throughout the country.

The last school where I became headteacher was the poorest school in that area of North Staffordshire but when I retired in 1982 it was the most successful primary school in the country. Parents worked with enthusiasm, helping their children. No-one questioned their ability. They just did it.

By following the teaching methods that I used this success story could be repeated everywhere.

Before it is too late, Tony Blair and the education secretary need to set the education ball rolling.

I have also recorded some stories for the radio Stoke series 'Inside Lives'
